Physical / Mental Health

My parents are moving from their home to a CCRC. They have chosen to do this but are resisting the process. I see them sabatoging the process along the way - even though they have chosen to move, to change, to do all this - themselves. Money is not the issue. However, deciding what to do first seems to be the issue. I don't want to push them but I also know I don't have the time to do this all at the last minute in terms of packing, moving, and determining what goes where. While this seems like a tough task - its even harder for them...yet they want my help...

My question is one of concern for my elderly mother, who lives alone in her own apartment at a seniors complex. I kind of noticed the other day when I was there, that she had lost some weight, and the meals that she described were not that hefty. My question is this: How or what are the tell tale signs that your elderly parents are not eating the required amount of food, or the right portions? They are alone, and no one is watching them, what do you look for, as signs that malnutrition etc...is taking place?

How does a caregiver stimulate interest in an aged parent who just doesn't care to live any longer? They are not depressed or despondent, just don't want to go on, they have lived long enough. As the caregiver, I work full time out of the home and also look after my parent full time, so my day is totally taken up with fulfilling duties, which don't even all get done. I'm the one getting depressed, though, to have my parent so non-communicative, when she is perfectly capable.

Hi, I'm a caregiver and just wanted to say how important it is to have a supportive community for caregivers. I'm always dealing with issues for my mother and I'm sure many questions will come up for an expert in the near future.
