Now more than ever senior services are widely available to help your aging parents. Your goal is to weave together a strong support network composed of local senior services, family, friends and professional caregiving companies.
Your local county Office on Aging is a great place to start. Find the phone number and web address of your county through your state's website. Before you call, make a list of your questions and concerns. During the call, be prepared to take notes. Take the time to clarify anything that is unclear. You can also call back later with more questions. Visiting the local senior center in your parent's neighborhood can also be a good source of information.
What may be missing from the information you collect is feedback about quality or customer satisfaction. Ask family, friends and colleagues for their recommendations of senior services they feel are high quality. Also ask your parent's doctor and other medical personnel for their recommendations.
